What to do if you see any NSFW content here Empty What to do if you see any NSFW content here

Post by charvaka Mon May 02, 2011 3:01 am

Now that many regulars have moved here, I think we should be prepared for some attacks on this forum. If any such attacks do occur, it is relatively easy to protect yourself from those attacks. There are three things you can do when you notice any NSFW content:
  1. Click the little triangle with an exclamation mark on it towards the top of the post, right next to the Quote button. This will report the issue.
  2. Click on the "-" button towards the right of the post.
  3. Click on the poster's name to go to their profile. On the right hand side, click on "Add to my foes."
After this, you will not see any more posts by that user. If you have any problems with this, send me a personal message, or post in the main forum paging me.

In the initial days, I request that you do all three things listed above. As we figure things out, we may be able to cut at least one of those steps out.

NSFW threads will become physically 'sticky' threads!

Is there an option to not load images automatically? Say, like the ones in that "what do men stare at" thread?

Or could the posters add a warning?

I opened that thread hoping for a nice, long, story from Tracy and nothing more.

Thanks.

I think this should be managed by individuals on their own side, rather than set up a forum-wide rule.

If you use Firefox and have Adblock Plus add-on installed, right click anywhere in the browser and select Adblock Plus: Block Image... In the resulting dialog box, you can configure it so that images will not be loaded only for this website.

If you use Chrome, go to Options / Under the Hood / Content Settings / Images. Select "Show all images" and then go to Exceptions to specify sites you want to block images from.

The above exceptions may not always work. For example, in that thread you are referring to, I linked to images that are hosted on other sites. They are not really hosted on the forumotion site. So, I am not sure if the above settings will work on them. You can try and see.

blabberwock wrote:Or could the posters add a warning?

If I had started the thread, I could have posted a warning in the subject. But since I was replying, not sure posting a warning in the subject of my reply would have helped.

That is why I wanted Admin to start a separate forum call it "Work-friendly" or "For your eyes only"

That way sensitive people like you and Saamiyaars like me can avoid.....

That was my question - whether there is something I could set for my account to avoid loading the images. I couldn't find any on the profile settings. I will try the options you've mentioned. Thanks.

If you are using Firefox:

Click firefox tab on the left upper corner

Click options then options again

Click content tab

uncheck "Load images automatically"

Click OK.

reload the page.... (you will miss my handsome Tom Cruise- like picture....Razz)

not upper left corner but in Tools tab.
if you just do uncheck, it will be applied to all sites visited from FF. You will need to add exceptions of sites that are allowed to load images.
Better option would be if we can check/uncheck in our profile preferences at this site itself.

Welcome to the new CH. I will look for this option and post an update in this thread once I find something.

hm.....when you teach Indian history to a 3rd grader you teach at that level and to a 10th grader with more details at a higher level. Both, however get the gist of history.

BTW, I was referring to FF 4.01 not the 3.9 version.

in anycase, who you be ? I am a saamiyaar under the Arasamaram.

Since the voting buttons have been removed, what happens if someone posts a NSFW photo here?

Imagine a situation where someone plasters a fully explicit porno photo on a thread which is on a serious and popular topic that all the members are discussing. What will happen in this situation?

Imagine another situation where this troll poster keeps posting porno photos with every reply on a serious and popular topic thread. What happens then?

I am not sure why the voting buttons were removed. I think it would have been okay to leave them there. I didn't get to test them. So, not sure about their full functionality.

i just read the stickies thread. carvaka removed the stickies on the behest of tracy and doofus. and that is after you had advised him not to act on whimsical requests of posters.

here is the thread (stickies thread):

p.s. so cro, TW and doofus were in favour of moving it.

the are moved, not removed... I gave the suggestion coz:
1) even when someone posts in sub forums, you can check out on the latest topics on the side.
2) by now we all are trained enough to post/read on those threads so we would go to the right sub forum to post there.
3) it gives more vertical space to the actual thread, and keeps it less crowded.
4) more logical question is, when we voted to keep the sub forums, then why keep subforum topics on CH main, and that too as stickies...

ooops, wrong time to give your reasons. right now we are not interested in your reasons. we are interested in the reason admin was interested in your reason (and those of cro and doofus too -- suitably qualified by his own reasons on the subject).

Actually, I always knew that those stickies were bound to be removed sooner or later. Those threads were not the best use of the sticky functionality of forums. That is why I did not whine too much about it.

That was an inadvertent mistake on my part. It should be fixed now. Would you please confirm that?

we actually voted to kill sub-forums.

https://such.forumotion.com/t234-do-we-want-subforums

and in that discussion, i had pointed out that if we have a few stickies, that would obviate the need to have sub-forums. admin had liked the idea.

Well, grumbling doesn't help. Real go-getters get their work done by offering blue flowers to the powers that be. Hinduism should have taught *you* atleast these basics...
