Indo garu, how did you learn to read and write Telugu? Do Orissa border district schools offer Telugu as a language option? These days kids born and brought up in Hyderabad can barely read a page of Telugu language text.

Four districts in Orissa - Ganjam, Koraput, Nowrangpur, and Malkangiri - and one district in Madhya Pradesh (now that part of MP is called Chattisgarh) - Jagdalpur Dt. (also called Bastar) - offered Telugu as a subject and also as the medium of instruction up until my batch and then two more years after me. Then the Orissa part made it all Oriya, and the MP part made it all Hindi. The Telugu standard in our schools was not as high as for those in AP, but our Sanskrit was of a better standard than AP grade for grade.
Our Telugu papers of public exams (SSLC, called HSC in Orissa) were graded by teachers in AP, and they used to be very liberal. I guess they used to think of us as poor souls outside AP making an effort to learn Telugu. That helped in our overall average scores.  Smile  Smile
